Overview

The eDisplay is a simple and easy-to-use display for the iRobot Create Command Module. The eDisplay extends the Command Module's capabilities by enabling users to print text and numbers on its screen.

Features

  • Four 7-segment characters
  • Up to three eDisplays can be connected to the command module at the same
  • Plugs into any of the top Command Module ePorts
  • Example Command Module C code function libraries make the eDisplay simple and easy to use

Getting Started

The eDisplay can be installed in any of the top iRobot Create Command Module ePort's. To install the eDisplay, follow these steps:
  1. The eDisplay may have a clear plastic protective cover over the LCD glass. The cover can be peeled off if it has not already been removed.
  2. Turn the Create's and the Command Module's power off
  3. Disconnect any hardware attached to the Command Module's ePort's
  4. Plug the eDisplay into the selected ePort
  5. Download the following files, and start a new project with them:
    *lcd4.h
    *lcd4.c
    *lcd4_exp.c
    *makefile
  6. Compile the project and download the program to the Command Module. The example program will cycle through each of the display modes and end with a 1/10th second clock displaying on the screen. The program auto-detects which ePort the module is installed in. If the eDisplay is not detected, the right Command Module LED will flash quickly after the auto-detect routine fails. If you have any additional hardware attached to the Command Module, the auto-detect may fail.
